Useful facts / उपयुक्त माहिती:
• Alphabetical order (अकारविल्हे क्रम): a dictionary lists words in the order A, B, C … Z. If the first letters are the same, compare the second letter; if those are also the same, compare the third, and so on. / पहिले अक्षर सारखे असेल तर दुसरे, मग तिसरे अक्षर पाहा.
• Guide words (मार्गदर्शक शब्द): the two words at the top of a page show the first and the last word on that page. A word belongs on the page only if it comes between them alphabetically. / पानावरचे पहिले व शेवटचे शब्द.
• An entry (शब्दाची नोंद): headword (मुख्य शब्द) • pronunciation (उच्चार) • part of speech (शब्दाचा प्रकार) • meaning (अर्थ) • example sentence (उदाहरण वाक्य).
• Short forms / संक्षेप: n. = noun (नाम) • v. = verb (क्रियापद) • adj. = adjective (विशेषण) • adv. = adverb (क्रियाविशेषण).
• Synonym (समानार्थी) = same meaning; Antonym (विरुद्धार्थी) = opposite meaning. / समान अर्थ; उलट अर्थ.
• Root word (मूळ शब्द): to look up running, runs or ran, find the base word run. / running शोधण्यासाठी मूळ शब्द run पाहा.
• Some words have more than one meaning; choose the meaning that fits the sentence. / काही शब्दांचे अनेक अर्थ असतात; वाक्याला जुळणारा अर्थ निवडा.
• In the figures: red marks the letter or word asked about; a red ? is the unknown. / आकृतीत लाल रंग प्रश्नातील अक्षर किंवा शब्द दाखवतो; लाल ? अज्ञात आहे.
