Moral story 11 to 15
1. The Merchant and the Parrot:
A merchant, returning from a voyage, brought back gifts for his family. He also brought a parrot for his wife. The parrot, however, was rude and ill-mannered, constantly insulting everyone. The wife, frustrated, asked her husband to get rid of it.
The merchant, before doing so, decided to consult a wise old man. The wise man said, "The parrot reflects the environment it's in. If you want it to change, change its surroundings."
The merchant then placed the parrot near his children, who were kind and cheerful. Soon, the parrot began to mimic their behavior, becoming polite and friendly.
Moral: Our environment greatly influences our behavior and character.
2. The River and the Bridge:
A river and a bridge argued about which was more important. The river boasted about its power and the life it sustained. The bridge countered, highlighting its ability to connect people and places.
A traveler, overhearing their argument, said, "You are both important. The river provides sustenance, and the bridge facilitates connection. You complement each other."
The river and the bridge realized that they were not in competition but rather part of a larger system.
Moral: Recognizing interdependence and the value of different roles leads to harmony.
3. The Two Mice and the Cheese:
Two mice found a large piece of cheese. They couldn't agree on how to divide it, so they went to a wise owl for help. The owl, however, was mischievous. He broke the cheese into two pieces but made one slightly larger.
The mice complained, and the owl took a bite from the larger piece. This made the other piece larger, so he took a bite from that one. He continued this process until there was barely any cheese left.
Moral: Unresolved disputes often lead to loss for all parties involved.
4. The Man and the Mountain:
A man, determined to reach the top of a mountain, began his ascent. He faced many challenges: steep cliffs, harsh weather, and exhaustion. But he persevered, driven by his goal.
When he finally reached the summit, he looked back and saw the path he had taken. He realized that the journey, with all its struggles, had made him stronger and wiser.
Moral: The process of achieving a goal is often more valuable than the goal itself.
5. The Three Sieves of Socrates:
A man came to Socrates, eager to share some gossip. Socrates stopped him and asked, "Before you speak, let's pass it through three sieves. The first is truth. Are you absolutely sure what you are about to tell me is true?"
The man hesitated. "Well, I heard it from someone..."
"The second sieve is goodness. Is what you are about to tell me something good?"
The man admitted it was not.
"The third sieve is usefulness. Is what you are about to tell me useful?"
The man said it was not.
Socrates concluded, "If what you wish to say is neither true, nor good, nor useful, then why say it at all?"
Moral: Consider the impact of your words before speaking.
